James Chang, MD

James Chang, MD, is an interventional pain management specialist at Alliance Orthopedics in Freehold, Union, Middletown, East Brunswick, Old Bridge, Randolph, and Bloomfield, NJ, and is board-certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as pain medicine. He brings years of focused experience helping patients manage chronic pain and improve their quality of life without relying solely on surgery.

Dr. Chang’s academic journey began at Yale University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in molecular biophysics and biochemistry. He went on to receive his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Driven by a passion for helping people live with less pain, Dr. Chang pursued advanced training in pain management. He completed a preliminary internal medicine residency at Drexel University’s Saint Peter’s University Hospital, followed by a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at NYU Medical Center. He went on to complete a fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he gained extensive hands-on experience in musculoskeletal medicine and interventional pain procedures.

Before joining Alliance Orthopedics, Dr. Chang served as Medical Director at Monmouth Pain & Rehabilitation Center. In 2014, he opened his practice, JKC Pain Mgt LLC, where he continues to care for patients. He is fully licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey.

Dr. Chang is an active member of the New Jersey Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He is also a diplomate of both the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

With a compassionate approach and a deep understanding of pain management, Dr. Chang is dedicated to helping his patients in New Jersey return to the activities they enjoy, free from the limits of chronic pain.
