William J. Gallagher

Dr. William Gallagher brings a wealth of expertise as he joins the esteemed team at Alliance Orthopedics. As a fellowship-trained and board-certified specialist in sports medicine, Dr. Gallagher is committed to providing exceptional care to his patients.

Dr. Gallagher earned his master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey before obtaining a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Hoboken University Medical Center, where he focused on refining his skills in comprehensive patient care.

With a passion for sports medicine, Dr. Gallagher pursued further specialization through a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. During this time, he contributed to the care of Penn State University teams and the State College Spikes, a minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Dr. Gallagher is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He also serves as a Primary Care Sports Medicine Instructor and Associate Professor at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.

Dr. Gallagher specializes in a wide array of adolescent and adult orthopedic injuries. He provides care to athletes and non-athletes with acute musculoskeletal injuries, chronic overuse conditions, non-surgical fractures, concussions, and has a special interest in injury prevention. He also treats patients interested in alternatives to surgery using various treatment strategies including ultrasound-guided procedures such as steroid injections, hyaluronic injections, nerve hydrodissection, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, prolotherapy, and focused rehabilitative therapy regimens.

His professional affiliations include memberships with the American Academy of Family Practice, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and American College of Sports Medicine, reflecting his commitment to staying at the forefront of his field. In addition to his impressive academic and professional achievements, Dr. Gallagher’s commitment to patient-centered care is evident in his compassionate approach to medicine. 

Dr. Gallagher’s dedication to sports medicine extends beyond clinical practice, with extensive sports coverage experience serving as the team physician for several local high schools since moving back to NJ. He has worked with athletes across a spectrum of sporting events, from community-level intramural competitions to elite-level professional sports leagues. With his expertise and dedication, Dr. Gallagher is poised to make a positive impact on the orthopedic health and well-being of his patients.
