What causes blood flow circulation issues?

Healthy veins in your legs keep blood flowing back to the heart. When the valves stop working properly, blood can flow backwards towards your feet, a condition called reflux. This causes blood to pool in the veins of your lower leg. Although reflux can lead to varicose veins and spider veins, other symptoms such as leg pain, heaviness, cramps, and restless legs can also occur. When left untreated, these and other symptoms can progress into a more serious condition called chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

How do we diagnose Chronic Venous Insufficiency?

From the convenience of any Alliance Orthopedics location, a 10 minute ultrasound can map the superficial veins of your legs. Combined with a thorough medical history and examination, our doctors are able to determine if you have chronic venous insufficiency, and develop a treatment plan to address your symptoms.

The good news about your condition is Alliance Orthopedics can help.

With the proper treatment, the progressive symptoms associated with CVI can be addressed in a few ways. Patients often experience some symptom relief with Normatec Recovery Therapy, and/or compression stockings, but a Vein Ablation procedure addresses your blood flow issues from inside your body. The team at Alliance Orthopedics can help you explore your options.

A minimally invasive and Long Term option: Vein Ablation

A Vein Ablation uses heat to close the diseased vein, which redirects blood flow to healthy veins relieving symptoms. This procedure does not need to be performed at a hospital, and can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

Explore your next steps!

With the proper treatment, the progressive symptoms associated with CVI can be addressed in a few ways. When non-invasive treatments such as compression stockings and Normatec therapy have failed, it may be time to consider a Vein Ablation.

Understanding The Procedure

The Vein Ablation procedure uses heat to close the diseased vein, which redirects blood flow to healthy veins relieving symptoms. This procedure does not need to be performed at a hospital, and can be performed under local or general anesthesia.

  • General anesthesia or a numbing agent is administered, making this a virtually painless procedure.
  • Using ultrasound guidance, your doctor positions the catheter into the diseased vein.
  • The small catheter delivers heat to the vein wall, causing it to shrink and seal closed.
  • Once the diseased vein is closed, blood will reroute itself to other healthy veins.
  • Following the procedure, a bandage is placed over the insertion site. Additional compression may be provided to aid healing.

Benefits

  • Minimally invasive outpatient procedure
  • Long-term treatment option
  • Covered by insurance
  • Procedure takes less than 20 minutes
  • General anesthesia is optional
  • Walk out of the procedure
  • Back to full activity the following day

Common Myths

Myth: I am too young for blood flow circulation issues.

Fact: Chronic venous insufficiency often starts in our 20s and 30s and progresses over time.
