Viscosupplementation at Alliance Orthopedics

Visco-supplementation is a type of injectable treatment that may be used to relieve pain in the knee joint.

It is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is found naturally in the body. The gel-like substance is injected into the knee joint and acts as a lubricant and cushion, which may improve overall knee function.

Alliance Orthopedics offers visco-supplementation as a treatment option for our patients. Our comprehensive team of providers will work with you to determine if this treatment is right for you. If so, our experienced staff will provide you with the care and guidance you need to get the most out of your treatment.

The Benefits of Viscosupplementation

Visco-supplementation is particularly beneficial for patients looking to treat osteoarthritis of the knee and rheumatoid arthritis. This minimally-invasive treatment offers patients several potential benefits, including:

  • Reduced pain
  • Improved knee function
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Delayed progression of arthritis

Alliance Orthopedics takes pride in providing accurate diagnoses and comprehensive, individualized treatment plans. We work with each patient to ensure they fully understand their condition and treatment options. We always strive to use the most conservative treatment methods before considering more invasive options.

How Viscosupplementation Works

Before visco-supplementation, your surgeon will clean and numb the area around your knee. Then, using ultrasound guidance, they will carefully inject the gel-like substance into your knee joint, providing you with lubrication and cushioning. A small, sterile bandage will then be placed over the injection site.

This procedure is relatively quick, and patients can return home the same day. However, after visco-supplementation, it is important to avoid strenuous and high-impact activities, such as running, for at least 48 hours. The effects of visco-supplementation are not immediate, but most patients will start to see improvements within a few weeks.
