Total Ankle Replacement at Alliance Orthopedics

Between arthritis and traumatic injuries, there’s a lot that can affect the ankle. Essential for support, the ankles provide a wide range of motion. When they become damaged, it can severely limit mobility and cause immense pain.

At Alliance Orthopedics, we offer total ankle replacement surgery to help patients regain function and quality of life. This procedure replaces the damaged joint with an artificial one, allowing the patient to once again move freely without pain.

When Is It Necessary?

A total ankle replacement may be recommended when other treatments, such as medication, physical therapy, and corticosteroid injections have failed to provide relief from ankle pain. It may also be recommended for patients who have experienced a traumatic injury to the ankle.

What to Expect During and After Ankle Replacement Surgery

Ankle replacement surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, which means you will not need to stay overnight in the hospital. The surgery itself usually takes two to three hours.

After the surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room, where you will be closely monitored. Once you are awake and alert, you can go home with a friend or family member.

You will need to use a walker or crutches for the first few weeks after surgery. Physical therapy will be essential to help you regain strength and range of motion in your ankle. Luckily, our surgeons work closely with our team of talented physical therapists to deliver a comprehensive care experience.
